Prepare for another petition
I thoroughly applaud zrl6416's article on porting the SNES version of Earthbound to the Game Boy Advance. I have also held that opinion for a long time, but I also would like to take that a little further. Why should we just stop at one portable Earthbound? Why do we just center on the SNES version of Earthbound? How can we get another Earthbound in spite of Nintendo's seeming reluctance? The answer is simle, but the way is tough.
First, what is wrong with first giving American gamers the game we never saw (except for the few, the brave, the law-breaking emulators)? I'm talking about Earthbound 0. Nintendo could port Earthbound 0 to the Game Boy Color as a sort of goodbye while porting Earthbound (SNES) to the Game Boy Advance? Nintendo could even forgoe the GBC and include a compilation title for the GBA. I also think that updated graphics (let's face it, the SNES graphics weren't pretty) and sound (the original music is great, just give it a better sound) are a necessity.
Nintendo seems very ill at ease with the Earthbound series. Any one who writes to Nintendo Power asking for a new Earthbound will get a list of recent or upcoming RPGs and a sort of appology/optimism/sorry-you-are-S-O-L response. Even though, Nintendo can't deny the overwhelming popularity of an obscure title (in America anyway). The Japanese can't get enough. I say that it is time for another petition.
Earthbound has obtained a small but very loyal following in America. Let's face it, anyone who visits starmen.net once a day (or several times a week) belongs to the EB cult (blue, blue). Anyone who played can't deny the charm. I want more of it. I demand another Earthbound game (or a human sacrifice, we are a cult afterall). I hope that starmen.net will take the initiative and form another petition (or other method of spreading the message) or another reader will. If anyone has any ideas concerning getting a new Earthbound (or modern remake) or if someone else will take the bull by the horns and tread the troubled seas of a new game please email me ([email protected]) and I will try to help and spread the word. Thanks to starmen.net for maintaining a very worthwhile site and for posting this humble plea.
