EarthBound Speculations
Hello, fans of Earthbound! I'm new to the EB fan scene, but I found something intresting about the Earthbound series I'd like to share. I'm not entirely sure if everyone has already discovered this, but I just thought it was cool.
By the way, if you have not yet played the NES version of Earthbound, DO NOT READ THIS ARTICLE!! GO PLAY THE GAME FIRST!! THIS IS A SPOILERRRRRR #&^$#*^*$#*# - Ahem. As I was saying...
So Mother sounds like a stupid name for an RPG? It might to us, but to the developers of the original NES game, it made perfect sense - you just had to know the storyline. By now, we all know about how Gigyas (Or Gigue, if you prefer) was parented by Maria and George. Maria's song drove Gigyas nuts and he 'killed' her, (I THINK) or at least sent her to the dimension of her mind. Well, Magicant and Maria's Song is the big theme in this NES RPG, to no doubt. So, wouldn't it be simple logic that the RPG's name is 'MOTHER', precisely because of what I have stated earlier? Gigyas' adoptive MOTHER was Maria. And her realm - and the song that she sang - was the major quest. I know this was very, very short compared to what else I've seen stuck on this site, but that's my problem. Hmm... Huh? You want to know why I think Maria was killed? Okay! This one will be even shorter to explain. Mind you, this is all my opinion. It could be easily disproved. Anyway, Magicant and Maria do dissapear after a time. Like... say... right after you go to Magicant via the XX TOMBSTONE. The fact that it seems she 'dies' and there is a tombstone that links you to Magicant seems to imply Maria was killed. Well... That's it for today. I know this was all about Earthbound Zero, but hey - that's what gave the background to this series, ya know. Cya, EB Peeps!
